Looking for a place to donate home health equipment?

East Tennessee Technology Access Center, 116 Childress St. in South Knoxville, will take it off your hands and get it into the hands of people who need it.

For several years now, ETTAC has had a ReUse program, which loans durable medical equipment to people who can't afford to pay for it (or who can't afford a large insurance co-payment).

But the nonprofit is running a little short of durable medical equipment right now. It’s hoping to stock its warehouse shelves with a variety of needed devices.

On the wish list: bedside and over-the-commode chairs; elevated toilet seats (with and without arms and backs); grab bars (both with suction cups, and the ones to be permanently mounted); hospital beds for bariatric (large) patients; hospital tables; lift chairs and recliners; Rollators (four-wheeled walkers with seats) in both standard and bariatric sizes; power scooters; shower benches and transfer chairs (bariatric and standard); bariatric walkers; and wheelchairs of all sizes and types, both power and manual, with and without legs.

Equipment should be clean, with no rust, and have no pieces missing.

The equipment is given, free of charge and on a first-come, first-served basis, to those who request it. When they no longer need it, they can donate it back to be used by someone else. A caller who needs something that ETTAC doesn't have can be added to a waiting list.

The ReUse program is in addition to ETTAC's longtime mission, adapting computer equipment and software for use by people with a variety of disabilities.

ETTAC can also use donations of computer equipment, as well as volunteers to work on the equipment and on adapting electronic toys for children with disabilities, deliver equipment, and read books aloud to be recorded. Brand-new electronic toys to be adapted are also needed, as are batteries in sizes AA, AAA, 9-volt and D.
